Private Messages 3.8 - UBB.Developers

Found a small error on the pm login page. The title bar shows the name of ur bbtitle gif instead of your bulletin board name.

I choose a file, it gives me the URL to paste in the message box, I click send. The 1st recipient is fine. <br><br>It's easy to reproduce, just send a PM with a couple of line breaks in to yourself twice (list yourself twice on the send list) and read the PMs, the first is OK, the second has the <br> tags in and is not displayed properly in privateview.cgi.<br><br>This has happened ever since the CC feature was added.<br><br>NEXT PROBLEM<br><br>Why does PM set cookies? What need is there for that? And why does it ignore the cookie scope set in UBB? It always uses the root scope - it that wise if users have local scope set in the control panel. It seems that that would create<span style="font-weight: bold"> two</span> different cookies for each user and if they changed their password - the root scope one would never get reset and their PMs would then become inaccessible until all cookies were deleted. Please test PMs after changing your UBB password to see what happens.<br><br>ANOTHER BUG<br><br>Sometimes I can't read my PMs and get returned to the logon screen (others have mentioned this above). This is probably a cookie problem. Now a while ago a guy posted how he had fixed the cookies by changing your cookie code into calls to the standard UBB cookie routines, why has this change not been made standard? It really is a good idea. I will post what he suggested at the end of this post.<br><br>MY DETAILS<br><br>UBB 5.47C, PM 3.8, UNIX, local cookie scope.<br><br>PM options: nothing extra enabled (not UBB code, not IMs etc - just basic PMs).<br><br>QUESTION<br><br>What are IMs, how do they differ from PMs? The internal server errors were occuring, because one of the scripts had reset the permissions on every file inside the PM folder to 644. I reset them, and it worked great for 30 minutes or so. I used my account and a test account and they worked fine. Then I used a members account and I got a 500 ISE for some unknown reason. All the file permissions are correct. I am upgrading from an older version... but I just copied over the contents of the private folder from my old version board. Changed all the private files perms to 777 just in case. <br><br>Now most of my users including myself had more than 30 PMs in there. When opening it for the first time you briefly see the privateview.cgi page then it dumps to the privatedelete.cgi with an Internal Server Error. Upon entering the PMs again it opens fine and the offending messages over 30 have been deleted. <br><br>To test this theory I also tried sending a message to myself once I am at 30. After it finished sending the message I get the same error. It pops back the privateview.cgi, then dumps me to an Internal Server Error on the privatedelete.cgi page.<br><br>The delete page appears to be working fine as I can delete messages normally any other times... from view or the message itself. And it even deletes them on the auto-delete function just fine, but it never successfully makes it back to the privateview.cgi page. <br><br>Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure it's a code glitch... as this might have been one of the out there circumstances you might not have tested for. But now when opening a sent PM, it shows no content in the message, it's empty and for where it should display the user, it says unregistered??<br><br>It might be possible that I have all the old addon's for the PM, from another board, than did this 3.8 updated version 3 days ago, but just uploaded the old addons, could that be anything?? All the file permissions are correct. I am upgrading from an older version... but I just copied over the contents of the private folder from my old version board. Changed all the private files perms to 777 just in case. <br><br>Now most of my users including myself had more than 30 PMs in there. When opening it for the first time you briefly see the privateview.cgi page then it dumps to the privatedelete.cgi with an Internal Server Error. Upon entering the PMs again it opens fine and the offending messages over 30 have been deleted. <br><br>To test this theory I also tried sending a message to myself once I am at 30. After it finished sending the message I get the same error. It pops back the privateview.cgi, then dumps me to an Internal Server Error on the privatedelete.cgi page.<br><br>The delete page appears to be working fine as I can delete messages normally any other times... from view or the message itself. And it even deletes them on the auto-delete function just fine, but it never successfully makes it back to the privateview.cgi page. <br><br>Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure it's a code glitch... as this might have been one of the out there circumstances you might not have tested for. The only one wierd circumstance that happened is I had copied the contents of the private directory over from an older version of PM. <br>When I did this tried to redo the permissions on the files to full 777. That seemed to fix most of the initial problems with getting back into the files. The only glitch was I had a few users that names start with special characters that I can't escape like ' and -.
