NOTE: If you can't find [34] or [35], replace with [35] and [34] respecively.
When I added this code it hid the box from everybody. I didn't leave it there long enough to toy with it since I'm putting a new CD player in my wifes car but I did verify that I didn't have any typos.
I've received the following from one of my users who uses Netscape 6.2
quote:The button does nothing when I click submit. There are no errors of any type (I checked the Javascript and Java consoles, no errors) The browser does not seem to try and "go" anywhere, the status is not changing as if it is trying to load another page or anything like that. It just sits there idle. If I click reply, and fill out the form there, it works fine. It is only the Quick Reply that is not working.
Has anyone had a problem with quickreply whereby sometimes posts made on the quickreply box is posted somewhere else? Like not where it's supposed to be?
XPerT, when are you gonna understand that if you want us to find a bug, you have to leave the problematic code instead of going back when something doesn't work?!

If you mean the posting in the wrong thread then it is still there. It hasn't happened to me yet but it has happened to my wife and at least 5 other members.
When I installed the 2.0 version it didn't show up for anybody. I've made so many changes to that page that I didn't really investigate any further. After I'm done waxing my car I'll look at it again. I did make the changes to this part of the code...
Hi I did have a problem with quickreply going to the wrong topic but I think I've fixed it. I just replaced this $in{f} and $in{t} with $forum_number and $topic_number respectively. Anyone see any problem with this? I haven't had any problems since I've done it.
An idea, I have a link to my faq on the quick reply box so they can get the smilie codes but I would like maybe a popup and they can click the smilies from there.
I'm really dumb when it comes to this but how would I make a cell above the box, to tell my users that it's a quick reply and they can use the normal process with the extra functions etc...?
Well I got the preview post button working, I had to add the javascript from the top of the new reply page. Are you going to add it to the instructions?
Do what I did with PM Inbox (not released yet) and CSS style chooser: add a new field to profile, then in every cookie place add three spaces and $user_profile[X] (also make sure it gets $user_info[10] in ubb_lib.cgi). Then, after:
Most off my forum I'm guessing. Anyway, another idea add a popup for where you can see a list of smilies, their codes and click to add to your post. I currently have a link to the list in the FAQ which isn't the best method I think/
not sure if anybody has tried this hack with the JC Templates but i did and the code that is asked to look for is not there in the JC Template version. the only part i can find is:
"my $bottom = qq~"
the rest is not there. here's what my code looks like before and after "my $bottom = qq~":
sub topic_bottom {
my $bottom = qq~
$TopicPageTotal
hopefully this is enough. please help anybody if you can. thanks a lot.
1. Profile option to turn it off 2. HTML/UBB Code is on/off 3. Spellcheck/Preview buttons (Greg, you should remove the spellcheck one ) 4. "Quick Reply" row 5. removed "Your Name" row 6. Disable Smilies 7. Moved Show Signature - now you can go to Submit button when typing Tab ones instead of twice.
All the files except for public_topic_page.pl are only for the profile change
i'm installing this hack now but i noticed that the things you asked for are a lot than what i actually have. i have a brand new copy of UBB 6.3.0.1 and it's been unhacked so far. for instance...all the places that you asked for code containing the number "34", my code has a "35" instead. and in a couple of the template files the code is really different from what you ask for. i'm also using the JC Templates so maybe that has something to do with it.
ahhhh...here's a good example. when you ask for us to find "" that is not in the JC Template version of "public_topic_page.pl". i'm supposed to add "$quick_reply" after it but now i don't know where to add that. oh well. let me know if you have any ideas. thanks
now i noticed after installing this and maybe these are just bugs but, first off, there's no border around mine. like with yours, there's both the 1st and 2nd alternating colors but with mine it's just nothing but my white background. the other bug is the spell check button. mine is just like this tiny little piece of the button with no words on the inside of it. the other two buttons are cool but the spell check is just like a 1/10 version of the button with no text. am i crazy?? lol maybe these are simple fixes?
I have never been able to get it to hide from people not logged in. It always hides from everybody. I tried a fresh v3 install and the same thing happened.
I already reinstalled my backup files and I'm happy with it.
yes i had installed the v2 before so when this was released i just started all over like i never even did that one. i figured that if someone had never installed v2, then how would they know to put in the code from that. am i off base or on the right track??
Awesome, it's working perfectly. I'm comtemplating a bit of a format change to make it match my board layout more but that's nothing new. I contemplate changes in my sleep, thankfully I don't follow through on all of them.
oh man...i did the entire hack again. i'm still having a problem with there being no border and the spell check button not being there. i mean the entire background of the quick reply is white. am i still supposed to have the code from v2 in my file?
hmmm...it looks like a sart but now i have this rather large black square that covers waaay more than just the quick reply background. i hate to be annoying man. i am doing all the code right. i know that so what might be the cause of this??
I Tried this with JCTemplates and with the standard and I have had no luck with the table borders showing as well. Really great hack I love it thanks for posting it.
I noticed this quick reply box after posting here in ubb, but I am thinking that it's not so useful to have a quick reply box just after the user posted because that means asking him/her to post again thus make a chit chat in every place.
Is it possible that this quick reply box would appear in the end of each topic so that whoever wants to reply, can do it without clicking on Reply (or by mistake on New Topic button:) ) ?
umm never mind it was something i did my mistake Greg Hard. i guess i should have went to bed last night and not play with my ubb thanks works good now.
After installing Quick Reply Box hack, I've got the board telling something like "An attempt of hack is logged or corrupted record of the member discovered with extrafields. ('00004337')".
I had to download the corrupted members files and noticed that they had in the end of the file the number 1 and rarely the 0. I uploaded the backup and everything fine and after a while I uploaded again the hacked files of quick reply box and still again that problem. Btw, I'm using 6.3.0.1 and the only other hack I've installed is Stats Hack of Tovok before Quick Reply Box.
I'm getting the same issues as Saxeus. What seems to be happening is, if someone turns off the quick reply in their profile it is adding extra lines in their profile. it is adding from 39 to 61.
Major bug..
thanks for the quick post, just fixed it on my boards.
I know the question has been asked about the gramlins which would be a nice feature to add, but how about the posting icons? is there a way to put those on the right side of this box?
ok, that's a perfect code as far as i can tell although it doesn't seem to align right with the JC Template's links-to-the-right-rather-than-the-top style. any ideas how i could make that work?

lol...damn i hope he doesn't have a problem with that. i noticed that it was being given out in different colors so i assumed it was free to use. i'll take it down asap if i'm not supposed to be using it. i did the colors myself for the ones i have though...
uh..nah, i did add . the problem is still that the quotes gif and the quick reply w/quote gif are touching each other. there's no space between them like the rest of the images. ?????
you know when you said bookie's image...did you mean the style of all my images on the right or just the quick replywquote image. i made the quick reply w/quote image myself, but i looked at his in photoshop to get an idea of what to do. lol
Yes, I meant only the qreply w/quote one... I guess what you did is fine.
About the spacing, I can see that... In ubb_lib_posting.cgi, I suggested to replace the direct_quote or whatever part, and if you compare that line, you see I removed . Add it back.
(Greg, you don't have to do that, only JCTemplaters)

I will not be supporting JCTemplates in this hack any longer. Its hard enough to attempt and maintain a hack with one set.

If you read the post, it is IN the DOC on the bottom... ugh.
oops, don't mind me.. I was accessing this page from a link in the newbie forum and somehow missed that the thread has evolved... my question was already asked and answered.. thanks!
Greg, your program has some problem copying and pasting, please use Notepad
1. make sure you use TABS and not many spaces. 2.
Code
[/code]There should be a tabe between $avline, and #38. 3. your regexes are totally incorrect. you have:
Code
</pre></div></div>Noticed something odd?<br><br>Use what I told you to:<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Code</div><div class="ubbcode-body ubbcode-pre" ><pre>
And the line after should be:[code]
Anyway, please don't edit this post, what does it matter if the page is a liiitle ugly
I wouldn't bet yours is better, most of its features are useless - it should be QUICK reply, not full reply, and its purpose is to save BANDWIDTH also... and this one has quick reply w/quote. Anyhow, URL for a demo of yours?

where is my post? deleting of my post was not very politically correct... QuickForm is quick. but it should have some features... bandwidth is saved by form, cause it's not full page...
unfortunately, there is no demo in net. my site was closed, so the board was closed too. but here is link to install package: UBBDev
Is their anyway I can remove "Show Signature" from the quick reply? I feel that many people will post multiple times and forget about having their sig and clutter up the board. So is their any way I can remove it?
2 Greg Hard: may be it's better to write modified code in special template? that way i've done my quick box(not very quick as you said:)) i think it's better way, than modifying of public_topic_page.pl everytime you want to change something in template...
quote:Originally posted by rav3n: 2 LK: yeah, i did it cause with every new release and with every new features public_topic_page grew fast.
but i think Greg Hard will go my way and add some features to his Quick Reply Box.
The only features slated are Length Checker, PM page additions, and a couple small things. The point is to make this Quick. Yours is nice, not the same as this one. So...
Just follow spellcheck instructions for public_new_reply_form.pl to public_topic_page.pl, BUT replace the character ' with \' in $spellcheck_button = ( ........ And the step after isn't add BELOW, it's add RIGHT AFTER (no line break)
2 Greg Hard. Still,as you said, there will be new features... i suggest you to create special template...
BTW, when will be the next release? i wanna see Length Checker, and PM additions. very interesting. can i use this features in my hack? of course, i'll give you credit...
I added PM stuff to UBBDev before you mentioned it, and length checker? If you want to add something that isn't even in the full reply page, I suggest you to make it a separate hack.

quote:Originally posted by gost95: ... also there's a border around the gif. i just added "border = "0"" to the fix that.
Everything that I've checked already has "border = "0"" ... and I still have a border. How can I get rid of it? What file are you talking about adding this to?
I have a little question. I am using JCTemplates (which is fine) and also using MyStyle. Now is it possible to get the graphic for the Quick Reply Quote to appear in the Template. So you can change it from the control panel?
As it is, I can only have one picture for it, whereas I would like to have a different picture for different templates.
If this has already been suggested, then please point out my error and ignore this redundancy.
I'd like to see a post icon that is specific for only the posts that are "Quick Posts". Instead of having a ton of the default icon, we'd have a ton of this new icon. It would be a good indicator to show how many people are using Quick Post.
Well I dont actually have the patience to go through 12 pages of people asking help to find out But... does this thing use alot of CPU processes etc and is there an option to turn it off or on only in select forums in the Control Panel?
Hey Dennis, it can be used different ways. It is dynamic in that it hides from people that aren't logged in, and you can turn it off in your profile. It doesn't have CP control to determine which forums it's displayed in. I'm sure it uses a couple CPU clicks because it has to read your cookie and profile to see if it's displayed or not.
Anyone got the old "install txt file" for this nice addon for 6.2.1 ? Ive tried to change the one thats here but its not too easy as some of the things you look for aint in 6.2.1
Hey Greg, the quick quote is causing quote pyramids. click here for the 6.2 thread where LK posted a fix (that I still use) to get rid of them. I uncommented that line and no more multiple quotes. Any idea how I can add this to the quick code to eliminate them?

I take that back. But it is still the designed behavior.
That's what I mean, I get no multiple quotes since I uncommented that line, unless I use the quick quote and it allows the qoute pyramids again. I was just wondering if there was a quick line of code I could add to ubb_lib_posting that would stop the pyramids.
Hahaha, I was able to fix it in an odd sort of way. I modified the code and I ended removing the quick reply link if the post has a quote in it already...not quite what I had planned.
Edit: I actually like it this way, if there is a quote in the reply the quick quote link doesn't show up. very cool, hahahaha..sorry, I'm easily amused at times.
Yeah it does, but I made the button disappear if there is already a quote..hahaha, I have no clue how but it works. At least it prevents quote pyramids.
Edit: Click here and look at the posts that have a quote in them...the quick quote isn't available for that post.
Okay, here is a question for all you guru type people. I have a member that caused errors on the topic page with the quick quote installed. He was the only one and the quick quote .gif never showed up in his posts. He had a ' character in his name and after I removed it everything was fine. How can I modify this hack so that it allows characters like that in the publicly displayed names?
