It looks like 5.5.1 is re-using old post numbers. If you add a post, delete it, then add a new post, you'll re-use the first post's number.
So if you create a link to a post, you don't know that it's not going to end up pointing to something else entirely.
5.5 didn't re-use old post numbers.
Allen? Scream? am I missing something? Max

You're obviously using a board which is active - try it on a test board. This happened both here and on Dave's test board.

Nope, its a new test board, I am the only one there. I tried it twice, same thing, it did not re-use the post number.

I did another test.
I created a new post, #102.
I then deleted 5 different posts.
I created a new post, #103.
Just trying to give you some feedback.

Hi lurch,
As it turns out, the other installation (Dave) which is misbehaving is on 5.5 , no 5.51 ... so I guess the version number isn't the problem. Thanks for clarifying.
The fact remains that a number of boards are suffering from this problem, including ubbdev.com . Go ahead and try it over here, on the test board, you'll see what I mean.

This is strange.
I tried it on threaddevs test board.
I created a post, 44483.
I did 4 replies, 44484, 44485, 44486, 44487.
I deleted the 4 replies.
I created a new post, its 44488, just as it should be.
Maybe Scream can figure it out.

You're right... I just tried it again, and it's working fine now. Maybe one of the many hacks is causing this behavior. Dave's test board on http://www.chattersonline.com/test/ubbthreads.php?Cat= is still suffering from this though. You don't need to conduct an elaborate test. Simply add a post, note the number. Delete it. Add a new post, see whether the number is the same or not. Max
