When users who aren't logged use the shout box it shows up as Anonymous. The field is there to type a name but it doesn't show up. If you type in a username that is taken it tells you that it is already being used, but if you type an unused username it just shows up as anonymous. I have the allow unregistered users to use the shout box set to one and the allow unregistered users to specify a nickname with the shout set to one.
